The West of Ireland offers the visitor superb golf courses, which have been fashioned out of a naturally beautiful landscape.

Whether you want to play by the sea or inland, there is a terrific variety of courses within 30 to 40 miles (50 to 60 kms.) of Corrib View Country House. The game is popular locally, so it is advisable to check in advance to ensure that your selected course is available to visitors at the time you choose.

Oughterard golf club:

Generous lush fairways bordered by mature trees and wodlands are a feature of this delightful and excellently maintained 18-hole mature parkland course, adjacent to lough Corrib at Oughterard. Stone walls reflect a bygone era when the lands once belonged to the ferocious O'Flaherty clan of nearby Aughnanure Castle. The clubhouse, converted from majestic farmhouse buildings, offer's visiting golfers every modern facility, including a well stocked pro shop, a first class restaurant and a hokely and welcoming bar.

Galway Bay Country Club:

Just 10 minutes from Galway City the club was designed by Ryder Cup Player Christy O'Connor Jnr, using all the natural challenges of the Galway coast. There are many water hazards, including the Atlantic Ocean which washes the perimeter on three sides. You can also improve your golfing game at the Club's extensive golfing academy.

This a mature course, set in an area of natural beauty with superb views of Galway Bay and the Aran Islands. It is just west of Salthill.


Connemara Golf Club (Ballyconnely)

The Connemara Golf links is bound on three sides by the Atlantic Ocean, while on the 'inland' side the golfer can enjoy an excellent view of the 'Twelve Bens'. The clubhouse, where the visitor can prepare himself for his round, is a fitting centrepiece for this impressive and demanding course.

The first 9 holes are laid out on relatively level ground; the holes which merit particular attention are the 7th, 8th and 9th. The second 9 holes are all longer than the first half of the course. The prettiest hole of the course is the 13th, Connemara golf clubwhere the golfer will probably be more fascinated by the view of the Atlantic Ocean and of the rest of the course than by his ball, which could therefore quite easily miss the narrow and well-defended green.

The way home from the 13th hole is a long one as the last five holes include three par 5's, all of which may prove decisive for the final score. All in all, the course offers an ideal challenge to all those who are determined to prove their skill!

Situated in the heart of Connemara this is a unique island course with some of the finest golf holes in the country. Joined to the mainland by a causeway at Bealadangan, the course's ocean inlets and rocky outcrops provide natural hazards demanding steady nerves. For the beginner the course offers an introduction to what golf is all about. Gort Golf Club is an 18 hole championship golf course set in 160 acres of picturesque Parkland on the edge of the world famous Burren and within 200 yards of the historic Monastic Settlement of Kilmacduagh. Designed by Ryder Cup star Christy O'Connor Junior the course provides a true but fair test for all golfers.

The variety of golf hole on offer will amply reward the thinking golfer. The delightful Par 3s, tempting Par 4s and the long Par 5s requiring every shot in the bag all combine to satisfy member and visitor alike.

 


Westport Golf Club

This 18-hole championship golf course is set in 260 acres of rolling parkland on the shores of Clew Bay, in the shadow of Croagh Patrick in Co Mayo, 52 miles from Galway City. There are many superb holes, but perhaps the best-known and most exciting is the par 5, 15th, which features a long carry from the tee over an inlet of Clew Bay. Three other holes are par 3's in excess of 180 yards. The club is one of the top courses in Ireland and has been the venue for national championships. The Irish Men's Amateur Close Championship took place here in 1997.
